A few days ago I was lying on my bed looking through job postings for mekton designers, when I received a mysterious email inviting me to “make a difference” in Algol. Now I’m lying on a bunk in a top secret battle ship, having agreed to be a mekton pilot for the daughter of one of the most brilliant mekton designer/techs the has ever come out of Muria.
Shion has an interesting personality. She is undoubtedly in charge, but rather than being the type of commander I’m use to: reigning in the big personalities of a crew with an ever bigger personality; she wants to be everyone’s friend. She is a good and idealistic person so it seems to be working for now, but I will admit a little concern if the Sinfaxi ends up in a fire fight.
I haven’t yet gotten a handle on the other people on the flight team. Terry obviously has the most experience as a mekton pilot and seems to be your basic jock-head, but I can see the glimmer of a greater intelligence in his eyes and I think that he has some command experience. It makes me wonder what happened to him… Jinx is a bit of a worry, her (nick) name says it all, and soldiers are typically a superstitious group. However, she is also a medic of some skill and you don’t turn that down on a battlefield. Milia is a Murian, has the bearing of a noble, is probably a psychic, and admits to having spy training: I will probably never have a handle on her personality.
I’m willing to bet that they are all better pilots than I am. I really only joined a flight team to try to get a better understanding of mekton design from the view of the end user. Understanding that I felt could only be gained by working and living in a mekton. Understanding that some of my fellow designers thought was trivial, but that I have found invaluable. Now, here I am, part of a team of mekton pilots, on this top secret battle ship, that is suspiciously lacking giant robots…
